Sharon Tindall, renowned artist and historian, will exhibit her work, tell stories, and give you the history of her hand-made Underground Railroad coded quilts on Friday, March 18, 2016, at The Village in Laurel, Maryland.
Sharon will also present a special family program for 3rd-through-5th grade children (accompanied by adults) in the afternoon.
This is about more than "just quilts."
You will learn how ideas, borne of necessity in a different era from ours, became an entire communications platform prior to the age of telephones and mobile devices.
You will discover how the fabric of an entire society was sewn together (pun intended) to meet a social, political, spiritual, and life-giving need so that people could realize a freedom that we take for granted today.
Let us know if you can attend the exhibit of Sharon's beautiful hand-made quilts and be in the audience as she shares stories and the histories of the quilt designs and the people for whom they were originally created.
